Disney is planning on banning the advertising on junk food on its television channels. They will prohibit the advertising of foods with high calories, sugars, fats and sodium. There are also plans to reduce the amount of sodium in the theme parks by 25%. Many people are opposed to the ideas, saying it should be a person’s individual choice to decide whether to buy unhealthy foods and drinks or not. Michelle Obama however says it’s an initiative that many companies should follow with their eyes on child obesity. The idea came right after the Mayor of New York announced his plan to ban the sale of large soft drinks.

I think banning advertisement for junk food and other unhealthy food is a good idea, because many children these days are overweight, and this way they will be less attracted to the good looking but very unhealthy foods that you see in a lot of commercials. But I don’t think this is the best solution for the problem, because when children want to eat something unhealthy, because it’s not only commercials that put children up to eating unhealthy. The parents should also encourage their children to have a healthy diet and grab an apple instead of a bag of chips.

  1. Disney will do a very good job on banning the advertising on junk food on their television channels! The same for their theme parks, it's all focussed on kids and they shouldn't be stimulated to eat junk-, unhealthy food. Of course, you choose to eat unhealthy food yourself, but the choice is easily made when you're having an amazing day in Disneyland. When they only sell healthy food like fresh sandwiches, etc, the children don't have a choice and they can either bring unhealthy food or buy healthy food in the theme park itself!
